Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., renewed his calls for $2,000 monthly stimulus payments on Saturday, called for $600-a-month unemployment payments and slammed what he described as a “do-nothing Senate” amid stalled negotiations over more stimulus. In a tweet yesterday on Saturday, he said that “The American people can't afford to wait any longer,” the self-described Democratic socialist said in a tweet. He goes on to explain how “Every working class American needs $2,000 a month. Every unemployed American needs $600 a week. Every American needs healthcare as a human right.” And ultimately Sander said that “No one in America should go hungry or homeless, and the do-nothing Senate must act.” Sanders has called for these recurring payments before. In May, he called for $2,000 a month payments alongside now-Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and Ed Markey, D-Mass. The three senators introduced the Monthly Economic Crisis Support Act to provide a $2,000 monthly check to every individual with an income below $120,000 throughout the pandemic and for three months once it concludes. He argued the one-time payment of $1,200 provided in the previous coronavirus legislation, known as the CARES Act, didn't go far enough to help families reeling from the coronavirus crisis. So now we will have to wait and see if there is more traction with this bill now that Kamala Harris is the Vice President elect and how she was on e of the senators to propose the bill

This past week the latest call for major relief came from the left-flank of the Democratic Party. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, , said Thursday that the “pay people to stay home” to curb the spread of coronavirus. This came just a day after the congresswoman Cortez knocked Republicans for failing to reach a consensus with Democrats on coronavirus relief. She said that “30 million people in this country are at risk of eviction. Millions of people are unemployed or underemployed from cut-back hours,” And ultimately she explained how “the economy is not the stock market. We are NOT doing fine. People need help in red states and blue, & our job is to help everyone. This is basic.” On top of what she said about stimulus Fellow "Squad" member Rep. Omar, D-Minn., had another suggestion and said that “We need to send every American a check until this crisis is over.”

Restaurants around the nation are finding it harder and harder to weather the pandemic as a new round of curfews and closures on top of no additional government relief push them into an even deeper financial hole.  In recent weeks, governors around the country have implemented curfews and mandated that bars and restaurants shutter dine-in operations by 10 local time in order to stem the now surging pandemic that has shown no signs of slowing down before the holiday season. Restaurant owners, now fear that the latest round of restrictions poses a threat to their businesses, even those within the country's most bustling cities. The owner of bar Sluggers in Chicago, Zach Stauss, told WBBM-TV that although the measure is vital in keeping "everyone safe and healthy so there is a 2021" it is still hitting his business hard. “It’s about 80% of our business from 9:30 and 1 in the morning, so it’s really, really killing us,” Stauss said. “It hurts.”
